DESCRIPTION:
If you're spinning your wheels trying to get Board members engaged in fundraising, you're not alone. Research shows that there's a better way. A staff-led fundraising model is more sustainable, and it starts with a shift: instead of chasing 100% Board participation, build a strategic fundraising plan around enthusiastic opt-in. That means welcoming Board members alongside donors, volunteers, and program team members, anyone with the network, skill, and time to genuinely help. This session includes real stories of Board and donor participation in major gift fundraising, plus concrete, actionable steps you can start using right away.
WHO SHOULD JOIN:
This session is ideal for fundraising staff and executive directors. All Gallatin County nonprofit staff, board members, and volunteers are welcome to attend.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Kileen Marshall has worked as a fundraiser (with a focus on major gifts and planned giving) for 20 years and started her consulting firm, Kileen H Marshall Consulting, in summer 2023. She previously spent 11 years as the Director of Philanthropy with the ACLU of Montana, where she led the efforts to grow the fundraising program from $200k to $1.4M and quintupled the planned giving pipeline from $2M to $10M in future bequest intentions.
Her work as a consultant has helped non-profits of all sizes – ranging from start-up orgs with an annual budget under $250k to national organizations at $25M+ annual expenses – to create or grow their major gifts programs and raise more sustainable dollars. Her focus is on driving immediate action rather than producing shiny consultant reports. Additionally, she is growing a philanthropic advising business to help donors think more deeply about their giving and how they might best make an impact that reflects their values now rather than passing those decisions on to others. In her non-working life, she is kept on her toes as mom to a feisty first-grade daughter.
